The covid-19 pandemic is still heavily affecting our daily lives, which not only means health care, transportation and public spaces. Many businesses are struggling and the comic shops are no exception. This has lead to an initiative by writers, artists and retailers to save the comic shops of Canada from shutting down.
It’s called “Be Our Heroes, Canada” and will be a virtual event on Facebook live during May 16-17th. It is organized by The Dragon stores and retailers Heroes World, Gotham Central and Cyber City Comix, hailing from Ontario. The Dragon owner Jennifer Haines stated:
What started as a conversation between four retailers on how we could cross-promote our shops turned into this idea of a national fundraiser to help preserve Canada’s unique comics landscape. Now more than ever, we need to come together to support one another, and provide our respective communities with a way to stay connected, all while protecting retailers that might otherwise fall through the cracks of government funding.
It is still possible to join the event as a participating store. More information can be found at @beourheroescanada on Facebook.
