Sega announces Game Gear Micro

Following the success of the Mega Drive/Genesis Mini, Sega is celebrating their 60th anniversary with a micro release of their first portable handheld. The Game Gear Micro will come in four versions, all with four different games:

Black Model: Sonic the Hedgehog, Puyo Puyo 2, Out Run, Royal Stone
Blue Model: Sonic Chaos, Gunstar Heroes, Sylvan Tale, Baku Baku Animal
Yellow Model: Shining Force Gaiden, Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya, Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict, Nazo Puyo: Arle no Ru
Red Model: Revelations: The Demon Slayer, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special, The G.G. Shinobi, Columns

Each of them will measure 80mm x 43mm x 20mm and have a 1.15-inch display, a mono speaker and a headphone jack. You can power it using an USB cable, or a pair of AAA batteries, which is a godsend compared to the six AA batteries of the original. To counter the small screen, it’s possible to get a magnifier glass if you pre-order all four versions.

The Game Gear Micro will be released in Japan on October 6th for 4,980 yen (around $50). Sega hasn’t revealed any plans for a Western release.
