Following the success with the revivals of Wonder Boy and more recently Streets of Rage, another Sega classic is coming back – Alex Kidd. This time, Sega has teamed up with Merge Games and Jankenteam to recreate the most fondly remembered title in the franchise – Alex Kidd in Miracle World, released for the Sega Master System in 1986.
The remake will bear the title Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX and will both include many old elements as well as expand upon them. Graphics have been given a 2020 uplift, yet still retaining touches of pixel art as a nod to the original. The remake will also have the old levels, and new ones, probably to fill the shoes of the expanded story. A boss rush mode is also included.
The game will be released on modern consoles and Steam the first quarter of next year.
Alex Kidd was Sega’s mascot in the days before Sonic. He had quite a few games. Miracle World remained the favourite among gamers thanks to its varied gameplay and distinct rock-paper-scissors mechanic. Alex later made a few comebacks in games such as Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
