Fans of WWF Wrestlefest, a classic arcade wrestling game from yesteryear, will want to check out RetroMania. This is being touted as the spiritual successor to that classic licensed wrestling title and judging by the designs shown, I agree. There is even a link to the classic, The Road Warriors, known as the Legion of Doom in the WWF arcade title. Currently RetroMania Wrestling is planned for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One and is coming Q1 2020 (not much longer).
Wrestling fans, please don’t let each other down on this one
This is our chance as wrestling fans that play video games to get something other than WWE 2Kx titles. Sure, there is the occasional Fire Pro Wrestling release but that is not very often and is more akin to the WWE licensed stuff. We have a chance to help kickstart a new category in wrestling games, well relaunch it, and that is arcade style, sprite based, fun.
It is also a chance to feature wrestlers that are not in WWE.
As mentioned already, Hawk and Animal of Road Warriors/Legion of Doom fame are included. Alongside that classic tag team, we can expect Tommy Dreamer (ECW’s heart and soul), Blue Meanie, Stevie Richards (here as Big Stevie Cool, probably for name rights), Colt Cabana and many others.
My list of most wanted wrestlers to appear
My list of wrestlers I want to see included at some point are Sting, The Rock n Roll Express, and I would love to see Jake the Snake Roberts if they could incorporate his snakes somehow. Who are on your list of wrestlers you want to see included? Would you want to see some AEW wrestlers? Maybe some from Impact Wrestling or even the NWA or maybe Lucha Underground. Let me know in the comments.
Head over to RetroMania Wrestling’s website to check out more.
First of all, I am so excited that a retro-style wrestling game (other than Fire-pro wrestling) is being developed. I hope the developers would be able to incorporate the all the wrestlers from Wrestlefest (in addition to wrestlers such as Scott Hall, Rick Martel, Shawn Michaels, Ted Dibiase, Andre, Ric Flair etc.) as well as present wrestlers such as John Morrison, Carlito, RVD, TJ Perkins, Kenny Omega, Cody, Young Bucks, etc.
There is going to be downloadable content which will bring additional wrestlers to the roster so there is at least a chance that some of those you mentioned will be a consideration if not added later. While I personally would love to see many of them, sadly, most are under contract of some sort to WWE who is keeping them for the 2K series of wrestling games.
There are rumors that we will see the Rock n Roll Express become available at a later time – source is Ricky Morton’s Facebook page where he shared my YouTube video about Retromania.
