Cheril Perils Coming to Nintendo Game Boy

Cheril Perils Mojon Twins

Cherl Perils is a new run and jump game by independent homebrew developer The Mojon Twins. Originally developed and released on the Sega Genesis console, Cheril Perils is now coming to the Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Color thanks to budgames.

Budgames is rewriting Cheril Perils for the Nintendo portable platform and has already completed sizable portions of the port.

Initially a crowdfunding success story, The Mojon Twins have released physical copies of Cheril Perils and also made the game ROM free to download.

For those not aware of Cheril Perils, it is an action adventure game that requires you to maneuver around each screen and take out enemies. Cheril is a good old fashioned jungle girl that discovers the concrete jungle of the city. Unfortunately, everyone in the city has been turned to zombies that are, what else, after brains.

Each level has a resonator device that Cheril can jump on which causes the zombies to become confused. While they are stunned, Cheril can jump on the zombies and defeat them. Once the last zombie is defeated, Cheril moves onto the next area or screen.

Graphically, Cheril Perils is not a powerhouse on the Sega Genesis so seeing a port in the works for less powerful hardware is interesting. Budgames work on the Game Boy and Game Boy Color is obviously lower resolution graphically but the essence of Cheril Perils is there and that is what counts.

There are no videos publicly available of Cheril Perils running on the Nintendo Game Boy platform. There are a couple of screen shots and photos though.

That leaves me to wonder how the animation is coming along on the Nintendo portable. Hopefully there is not a lot of sacrifice in that regard as choppy animation can ruin a good action game fast.
